Q. where can i get a free learn german book sent to me Asked by cc46 - Fri Apr 10 08:30:49 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Phrasebooks usually are useless: Either they're outdated (telling you phrases no one uses anymore), or they're too inflexible: What use is it to know the phrase "What is the way to the railway station?" if the phrasebook doesn't help me to understand the answer? I'd recommend instead that you learn a few German words and part of the grammar. You can do so by watching the news and movies in German; what the h*** is the internet for if not for global communication? Try, e.g. www.tagesschau.de , Germany's state television daily news. Answered by Alwin E - Fri Apr 10 13:45:34 2009 What are some good books or software programs for learning Malay? Q. I may be going to the Malaysian part of Borneo on vacation next year, and I'd like to understand the local language a little more than I would get from just reading a phrasebook. I'd like to start with a book, tape, or program rather than a tutor, because of time constraints. I'd like some recommendations for learning materials. I'm a native English speaker, if that makes a difference. (Also, please let me know if I should be learning a language other than Malay!) Q. I know they have their own language, apparently about 1 million speakers, and have seen an English to chechen phrasebook Asked by jay58 - Fri Mar 23 10:28:59 2007 - - 6 Answers - 1 Comments A. Yes, I know several Chechen speaking people. Chechnya was part of the Soviet Union. The vast majority were deported to Kazakhstan by Stalin, many died on the journey. They were allowed to return after Stalin's death in the mid-50s. After the break-up of the Soviet Union they sought independence. This was refused. Since then there have been two wars in the area, the latest of which is still in progress. Mainly Muslim, the Chechen people have absolutely nothing to do with Georgia, geographically, linguistically or religiously. Georgia is a principally Christian and borders the Black Sea.
